Alun Leach-Jones
Australian artist Alun Leach-Jones approached Ikon to design a book retrospective of his 40-year career as a painter and sculptor. The result is the 240-page hardcover Alun Leach-Jones Painting and Sculpture. As well as functioning as a visual narrative, the book documents Alun Leach-Jones’ career through essays, listings and an interview with the artist. To create a sense of pace, the works are presented at various scale, and alongside images of key works, bold full-page bleeds highlight significant details. Using subtle design techniques to create consistency and an invisible ‘framework’ for the content, Ikon ensured the art remains the hero. Says Alun, “(Ikon’s) Kate Dennis presented a classic, understated, sophisticated reading of the narrative of my work, laying out everything in a clear and subtle design, free of fashion and tricky over design.”
