Let’s Dance (and Drink & Dine)

    Environment
We've already noted Salon del Mobile's disco-tinged display, but according to Wallpaper* it's not just dancing in style that's made it into the exhibition, but dining and drinking too. This is one trend we're looking forward to unfolding. Chez Nina by India Mahdavi at Nilufar Gallery. Image by Mattia Lott.

    Daydreaming in the Dark

    Wishful
Our obsession with all things ceramic is showing no sign of slowing and this time it's lighting things up. With floor, ceiling, table and wall options covered, Eric Roinestad's lamps and shades have taken the edge off longer winter nights. Get illuminated on In/Out.

    Cool for Cats

    Muse
Cats are cool right now, and we've pounced on a few feline trends kicking off with Kedi, a charming documentary garnering praise across the globe with its focus on the street cats of Istanbul. In a bid to promote craftsmanship in Fukuoka, designboom reports that Japanese cats have taken to reclining on to scale models of beds and couches. Finally, Sight Unseen reports on Stephen Eichorn's latest book Cats and Plants,  a slightly surreal publication for kooky cat lovers.

    Luscious

    Muse
We heard about Australian artist Cj Hendry some time back but recently caught up with her newly found fascination paint blobs via This Is Colossal. It's unfathomable that these seemingly deep paint swabs are actually flat, yet luscious, drawings. We love them.

    Yoga with a Twist

    Muse
For some it's about cats, dogs and goats, while for others it's beer. But the one that has our attention is with wine. We're talking yoga of course and we're ready to salute the sun, do the downward facing dog or get into the lotus position all with glass in hand. According to Handpicked Wines it's a double dose of healthy living.

    More is More

Ode to Intuición is a series of slightly surreal but absolutely gorgeous non-functional vessels made from found, blown and engraved glass by Juli Bolaños-Durman. Juli's process begins with the 'exploration of preciousness' moving into intuition as ideas start flowing. She has a preference for objects that have emotional connections and act as storytellers. We're blown away and wouldn't mind having out mantle stacked. Images by Shannon Tofts and first sighted on It's Nice That.

    Ceramic Cravings

    Muse
Satiating our ceramic cravings is no mean feat, but that's exactly what Anna Barlow has done with her whimsical work featuring melting and oozing food in all its gooey glory that was shown at Ceramic Art London 2017 last weekend. Images by Juliet Sheath.

    Paste Up

The charm of collage continues to lure artists, and others, in. Since our round-up in 2014 we've snipped a couple of new favourites starting with Waldemar Strempler (above) whose work Trendtablet has singled out as capturing the essence of the times. Next up and at 71 is Romanian collage artist Ion Bârlādeanu (below) who was discovered in 2008 following a 20 year period of homelessness. It's Nice That's article is well worth a read and the place to see more of his sometimes witty work.

    Stockholm Stopover

    Gallivants
With a spring in its step, Stockholm has woken from its winter slumber with a slew of opulent offerings. First up is Alma, a members club providing opportunities for social nourishment, the learning of new skills and far more. We'd join just for the interior. Artilleriet, which we found on In/Out, is the place to shop for cool objects. We adore Marc Braun's mortar and pestle although it has us in a major marble quandary. And for sustenance it's Agrikultur where the focus is on seasonal Swedish ingredients from an open kitchen. For more nordic tips check out Sight Unseen's roundup.

    Porcelain Power

    Muse
It's no secret that we're big fans of flowers and porcelain, so when the two come together it can only be a good thing. We recently unfurled the work of Owen Mann via This Is Colossal. His ceramic blooms have us totally in awe, painstaking perfection. We're left agog.
